Why are males prominent in politics? Describe some of the leadership roles women have played in different societies. What might explain women’s greater access to leadership roles in some societies than in others?

Week 4: Gender Socialization

Please incorporate the following questions in your discussion.

1. What is gender socialization and why does it matter? 

2. How does socialization affect gender roles in the United States?

3. What are examples of gender socialization? Are we all guilty of this? What would happen if you walked into a toy section and the isles were not separated by gender specific toys?

4. What is the purpose of gender roles? Do you see gender roles still existing, not existing, or remaining the same in the future?
