Background: an office of a marketing firm. The team is preparing a high-stakes pre
sentation for a major client.
The marketing team consists of two key people: Yin, a senior strategist, and Whit
e, a creative director, both of whom are talented but have very different working
styles; Yin is detail-oriented, analytical, and prefers to stick to strategies tha
t work. White, on the other hand, is more adventurous, pushing for bold, creative
ideas and emphasizing the importance of standing out.
Conflict begins: The team is tasked with presenting to a prestigious new client.
Yin proposes a data-driven security strategy that focuses on past successful marke
ting campaigns and market research. White, however, comes up with a bold new idea
for a non-traditional campaign with a quirky marketing element.
At their initial meeting, Yin thought White’s idea was “too risky” and that it d
idn’t fit with the client’s conservative brand image.Feeling devastated, White sho
t back that Yin was “playing it safe” and that without taking creative risks, th
e ad agency wouldn’t be able to stand out.
The team feels pressure from both sides and the atmosphere becomes tense; Yin is w
orried about alienating the client, while White believes their bold approach will
ensure a successful deal.
