Overview

Approach your journal assignments as though you are sharing these leadership concepts with a peer who has not read the articles that you will summarize. For each journal assignment, you will examine a relevant article, connect it to the five leadership practices, and plan your next steps to develop your own leadership skills.

Use your textbook to define the five leadership practices:

Model the Way

Inspire a Shared Vision

Challenge the Process

Enable Others to Act

Encourage the Heart

Look for those practices in the article you select. Cite both the textbook and the article using APA citation style.

For each journal assignment, use the Wharton School Knowledge@Wharton resource to select an article about the topic specified for the module.

Module One Journal. Select an article on one of the following topics:

Personal biases

Gender and culture in leadership

Social and emotional intelligence

Module Two Journal. Select an article about a leader who uses one of the following leadership styles:

Authentic leadership

Transformational leadership

Servant leadership

Module Four Journal. Select an article about:

A leader taking a calculated risk

Module Six Journal. Select an article that focuses on:

One of the three leadership development areas that you identified in the Leadership Development Action Plan during Module One

The website provides options to search for a specific topic, filter by articles, and sort by date. Use those features to find a recent article that interests you.

Provide the title of the article you selected.

Respond to the following reflective questions:

Explain the key leadership concept that is your takeaway from the article.

Explain why this article resonated with you personally, using a story from your own experiences with this leadership concept.

Explain how you can apply what you have learned from the article to your professional and personal life in terms of the five practices.
