    Introduction

    The mode of delivery of healthcare services has been transitioning from the healthcare facility-based environment to home-based services. The healthcare system requires updated, advanced technology and technically skilled medical staff. This transition was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which increased the use of telehealth exponentially (Garfan et al., 2021). The positive outcomes and feedback from the patient and the stakeholders indicate the positive effect of incorporating telehealth into the healthcare system. This assessment will be about developing an implementation plan which can improve the quality of care provided through telehealth and improve the privacy of patient information.

    Adequacy of existing telehealth technology

    For the improvement in healthcare services in home-based settings, telehealth can play a pivotal role. Telehealth uses information technology to provide healthcare services to people residing in remote locations (Haleem et al., 2021). Our organization introduced a telehealth system about a decade ago, yet it remained dormant because fewer people were utilizing it for healthcare services. It is one of the reasons why the administration department did not pay much heed to the improvement of telehealth services. When telehealth services started getting recognized, the administration started renovating the system for patients in remote areas. The problem faced by the organization was that the telehealth system was developed only for the outdated technology and was not much responding to the advanced healthcare technology, which is now used in healthcare facilities.
    An example of an outdated system is that during counseling sessions with the patients, the video call hangs after every two to three minutes as the system fails to handle high-quality video streaming. Due to this outdated infrastructure of the telehealth system, the organization has suffered a lot. This cannot be improved by incorporating new and advanced computers into the infrastructure as these will also not be compatible with outdated software systems (Scott et al., 2018). The system needs to be updated and improved to make it compatible with the new technology for better telehealth services. Staff training is another important infrastructure parameter that needs to be dealt with to enhance the quality of telehealth services. This is necessary because if the staff does not have the skill to operate the new and advanced system, then updating the system will not improve anything.

    Deployment of the upgraded telehealth technology

    No matter what advanced technology is introduced into the healthcare system, if the interdisciplinary team is not collaborating to incorporate it into the system, the system will eventually fail. To avoid failure of the new system, the tasks and responsibilities must be assigned to different individuals in the healthcare facility. The information technology (IT) department will play the most crucial part. Three teams can be formulated in the IT department, each with a set of responsibilities. The team will be an IT support team, IT training team, software developers, and education. It will allow different teams to focus on different areas of telehealth to improve it and make it more effective for the patients and the healthcare facilities. As telehealth is based on information technology and software, the IT department will be best suited for the leadership role.
    The IT support team can help identify the telehealth software models and systems that can be most effective in enhancing the quality of care provided by healthcare facilities. On the other hand, the IT training and education team can provide the medical team with the required training to operate the telehealth system (Vaughan et al., 2020). The enhancement in the technical knowledge and skill of the staff is crucial as they will use the system. The IT software developers will assist in developing the impeccable telehealth system, which will not cause any delays and glitches during the telehealth sessions with the patients. IT software development team will also help in modifying the telehealth system according to the advanced technology available in the organization. After the development of a stable telehealth system, all the teams need to collaborate to keep the new telehealth system sustained to get optimal outcomes.
    The interdisciplinary team will be responsible for counseling the patient about the use of telehealth and promoting the telehealth system. The leaders in the interdisciplinary team should also encourage their team members to use telehealth and report any shortcomings to the IT department. It will allow the IT support team to develop better options that can further improve the telehealth system, resulting in better care and patient health outcomes.

    Implementation schedule

    The implementation can be made streamlined if all the associated stakeholders are involved and the required budget is also provided to them. The timeline set for implementation is approximately 10-12 months. A range is provided so that in case of any issues, effective solutions can be made to stabilize the implementation process. Two of the main processes at the beginning of the implementation are need assessment and persuading the associated stakeholders. The need assessment was completed in approximately three weeks, which included identifying the required technology. The stakeholder buy-in tool is one and a half months because of the different schedules of the stakeholders from different departments.
    Right now, we are in the planning of the implementation phase, which is of two months. By meeting with the stakeholders and the administration department, a preliminary budget of 25,000 dollars is decided. During this time, the implementation plan was also developed to ensure that the required parameters were met. All the elements of the implementation plan are also checked to improve the provision of healthcare services through telehealth. It was also ensured that the whole plan used the allotted budget according to the requirements. After developing the implementation plan, the next step is to gather the funds for the action phase of the plan. The organization has provided an amount of 8,000 dollars, and an amount of 13,000 dollars has been raised by the stakeholders. The remaining 4,000 dollars also needs to be raised by the stakeholders. As this is not much of a big amount, it can be expected to be raised by the stakeholders in the rest of the time.
    The next three months will be allotted for the training of the whole staff of the organization regarding the optimal utilization of the new telehealth system and the new advanced technology. They are also educated about how to counsel the patient on using telehealth at home. The rest of the time on the schedule will be utilized for the pilot run of the newly developed system. The pilot run will let us identify any errors or issues that might occur while using the telehealth system. In this way, we can make amendments to the system before it is launched on a larger scale.

    Staff training requirements and strategies

    The training of the staff is crucial to the success of the newly developed telehealth system as they will be the ones utilizing the technology and systems. The medical staff will also be in direct contact with the system and the patients; hence they have the highest impact potential. It needs to be made sure that the medical staff understands how the system works and what they need to do in case of delay and glitches. Training is necessary for older staff as they do not have sufficient knowledge regarding advanced technology (Gajarawala et al., 2021). The training sessions will be arranged in the organization, and the trainers will be from the IT department.
